Track it with FurNote, step by step

1. STEP 01

   Open the Supplies tab

   Tap Supplies in the bottom navigation to open your inventory list. The first time, it'll be empty.

2. STEP 02

   Add an item

   Fill in the category (one of 10), brand, product name, quantity and unit (for example '3 bags' or '2 kg'), purchase date, expiry date, reminder days (default 14), and an optional safety-stock level (how low it can get before you're warned). For example: Food + Royal Canin + Indoor 27 + 3 bags + safety stock 1 bag + expiry 2026-08-15 + 14-day reminder.

3. STEP 03

   Browse grouped by category

   Back in the list, items are grouped by category (food, canned food, treats, and so on), and within each category they're aggregated by brand and product. Several bags of the same food show as a single '3 bags' entry.

4. STEP 04

   Expiring items get flagged automatically

   FurNote compares today against 'expiry date minus reminder days' every day. If food expires 2026-08-15 with a 14-day window, it shows an orange 'expiring soon' tag from 2026-08-01. Anything past its date shows a red 'expired' tag.

5. STEP 05

   Mark items as used

   When you finish a bag, tap 'Used' on that entry to remove it from inventory while keeping a history record. Next time you're restocking, that history tells you which brand you bought, when, and how long it lasted.

Can I track an opened bag that isn't finished yet?

Yes. FurNote doesn't track how much is left in an open bag (there's no '30% remaining' field), but you can note the opening date in the notes field. As a rule of thumb, try to finish opened dry food within 30–45 days to avoid the fats oxidizing.

Can I set a low-stock alert, like 'less than a week of food left'?

Yes. When adding an item you can set a safety-stock level — the quantity at which you want a warning. If you normally keep 3 bags and set safety stock to 1, FurNote shows a 'low stock' tag once you're down to 1 bag. Just remember to tap 'Used' each time you finish one so the count stays accurate.

How do I log buying 6 bags of litter at once?

You can add each bag as its own entry (even with the same brand and expiry) and FurNote will group them as '6 bags'. Or create a single entry for 'litter × 6'. Separate entries are handier because you can mark them used one at a time.

I'm giving away a supply before it expires — how do I record that?

Just tap 'Used' — FurNote doesn't distinguish between consumed and given away. If you want a note for the record, add something like 'gave to a friend's cat' in the notes field.

Is there a difference between 'best before', 'expiry', and 'use by' on pet supplies?

Yes. Dry food usually shows a 'best before' date — past it, the food isn't necessarily spoiled but flavor and nutrition decline. Medicine shows an expiry date — don't use it past that. Supplements vary by ingredient. The safest habit is to treat every date as a hard expiry and discard once it's passed.
