How to Keep a Daily Care Journal for Your Pet in FurNote

FurNote is a record-keeping tool, not veterinary advice. There's no single 'journal' feature, but FurNote's record types combine into one. A good pairing is diet (each meal plus water), care (one daily entry with four signals, plus wound photos on Pro), and symptom (only when something's off, with a photo). Spend 3-5 minutes a day on one or two entries, and after a month you'll see your pet's rhythms and subtle changes.

How To

Track it with FurNote, step by step

  1. STEP 01

Diet, a 30-second entry per meal

The diet record captures meal type, brand, product, amount, water, and a food-change flag. One morning and one evening entry is enough, and you don't need every snack. On a food-change day, set the food-change flag, since it's useful later when tracing digestive changes.

  2. STEP 02

    Care, one entry before bed

The care record's four signals are mobility and appetite (1-5 each), energy/mood (lively, normal, lethargic, or unresponsive), and whether pain was observed (yes/no). On Pro you can attach wound photos for a cut or skin issue. See our daily wellness guide for more.

  3. STEP 03

    Symptom, only when something's wrong

No need to log this daily. When there's an issue like vomiting, limping, or red skin, add a symptom entry with type, frequency, duration, a photo (Pro), and notes, for example 'vomited once at 8 pm, yellow foam, about 30 minutes after eating.'

  4. STEP 04

Excretion, on the days that matter

When your pet is healthy, a note every day or two is fine; during diarrhea, bloody stool, or abnormal urination, log every time. The excretion record covers stool condition, urine condition, and notes.

  5. STEP 05

A combined export before the vet

From Export, select diet, care, symptom, excretion, and weight over the past 30 days to generate one PDF. Letting your vet cross-reference several record types beats 'something's been off lately.'

FAQ

Frequently asked

How much time does this take a day?
Once you're used to it, 3-5 minutes: a diet entry at breakfast (30 seconds), a care entry in the evening (a minute), and a symptom entry only if something's off (2-3 minutes). Spend five minutes on the weekend reviewing the trend.
What if I can't log every day?
Anchor on three things: weigh once a week, note water intake daily in the diet record, and log a symptom with a photo only when something's off. FurNote's comparison against 30 days ago catches most meaningful changes from just these.
How do I keep journals separate for multiple pets?
FurNote keeps each pet separate. Switch pets at the top of the Records page and each pet's entries stay their own. Multiple pets need the Pro plan. See our multi-pet weight tracking guide for more.
I have so many records I can't find an old one.
Export a PDF and search within it. The app doesn't have in-record search yet, so to find a specific date, download the 'last 90 days' PDF and search it in your PDF reader.
Can anyone else see my records?
No, unless you actively use family sharing. Records live in an encrypted backend where row-level security limits access to you and the family members you authorize. Family sharing is a Pro feature, so if you haven't invited anyone, only you can see them.
