Daily Wellness Scoring in FurNote: Four Simple Signals to Track

FurNote is a record-keeping tool, not veterinary advice. The care record is something a basic log doesn't offer: alongside a note, you can capture four daily signals, which are mobility (1-5), appetite (1-5), energy/mood (lively, normal, lethargic, or unresponsive), and whether pain was observed (yes/no). The point isn't the absolute number but the trend versus yesterday and last week. It's especially useful for senior pets, chronic-condition management, and post-op recovery.

Daily Wellness Scoring in FurNote: Four Simple Signals to Track

How To

Track it with FurNote, step by step

  1. STEP 01

Open the pet's care record tab

In Records, choose the pet and switch to the Long-term Care tab. The first time, you'll see an empty state.

  2. STEP 02

Log one entry at a fixed time each day

Tap plus and fill in the four signals: mobility (1-5), appetite (1-5), energy/mood, and whether you observed pain. You can also note medication given (name, dose, method) and a free-text remark. One entry a day is enough, so pick a consistent moment, like before the evening meal.

  3. STEP 03

Build a baseline over 7 to 14 days

The first couple of weeks establish a baseline. Once you know 'normally a 4' is this pet's usual, a later dip to 2-3 stands out.

  4. STEP 04

Watch the trend in the record list

FurNote lists each day's entry. If scores fall by 2 or more over 3-5 days, or 'pain observed' flips from no to yes for several days running, talk to your vet; the trend matters more than any single day. Note that the care tab shows a record list, while the weight chart is the only in-app trend graph.

  5. STEP 05

Export a care PDF before the vet

From Export, select Long-term Care and a date range to generate a PDF. A two-month view of the mobility signal is far more useful to your vet than 'he seems a bit slower lately.'

FAQ

Frequently asked

When is the care record the best fit?
Four situations: routine tracking for senior pets, managing chronic conditions like arthritis, CKD, or diabetes, recovery after surgery or major treatment, and behavioral rehab. For a healthy young pet, the standard records are plenty.
Should the scores stay consistent day to day?
Yes. The value of the four signals comes from comparing like with like. Decide how you interpret a '4' and apply it the same way each day, since switching your mental scale midway makes the history hard to compare.
How do I judge 'pain observed'? Cats hide it.
Cat pain is subtle: crouching for longer, jumping less, disliking being touched in a spot, grooming less (especially the rear), or withdrawing from people. If any persists for 3 or more days, mark yes. Dogs are clearer, with limping, licking a spot, or a tense expression.
The scores keep dropping. What should I do?
If mobility or appetite falls by 2 or more over 3-5 days, see your vet. First export the last 30 days of care, weight, and water records in FurNote to bring to the appointment.
Is care a Pro-only feature?
No, it's available on Free too. It pairs well with multi-pet (Pro) and attachment uploads (Pro), but the four daily signals work on any plan.
